Job Summary

Sustainability is a growing field that uses a holistic lens to investigate, and problem solve the environmental, social, and economic problems our world faces. As the Sustainability Technician, you will work within the Office of Sustainability & Campus Enrichment and provide support for office programs, initiatives, and events such as the Internship Program, social media channels, STARS, the Sustainability Master Plan, the Aggie Green Fund, and the Aggie Sustainability Alliance. Through these efforts, you will help increase the sustainability of practices such as energy and water use, transportation, food services, construction and built environment, purchasing, recycling, and social justice. You will be part of a dynamic team that works to create a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Engage students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the community to create a culture of sustainability at Texas A&M University through various education and outreach platforms.
  2. Help develop content and graphics for office social and mixed media platforms.
  3. Help create various campus engagement platforms such as presentations, tabling, workshops, events, and creation of educational media material.
  4. Help train Sustainability Outreach Specialists to deliver office engagement platforms.
  5. Assist with completion of TAMU’s STARS (Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) Annual Report.
  6. Assist with completion of the Annual Sustainability Highlights Report.
  7. Assist with implementation of the Sustainability Master Plan.
  8. Research current events and trends in sustainability with a focus on Higher Education.
  9. Research sustainability initiatives to be considered for Aggie Green Fund grants.
  10. Assist with the Aggie Sustainability Alliance.
  11. Assist with administrative tasks such as inventory tracking, room reservations, interviews scheduling, and coordination of meetings and tasks.
  12. Gain experience working in a diverse team-based office setting that coordinates with all divisions and departments of campus.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Working toward Texas A&M University Degree
  2. Completion of at least one semester in the Office of Sustainability & Campus Enrichment Outreach Specialist Internship Program.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  1. Experience with designing and writing social media posts and promotional materials.
  2. Experience in and knowledge of various Social Media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, etc.).
  3. Experience with social media strategy.
  4. Attention to detail and basic knowledge of general office use of computers and software applications.
  5. Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:

  1. Outreach and Education experience. E.g. Public speaking, presentation experience, tabling/outreach experience, educational content creation.
  2. Knowledge of the Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System (STARS) and the Sustainability Master Plan.
  3. Research/Data Analysis skills and/or experience.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Ability to work and problem solve independently.
  6. Ability to demonstrate a history of incorporating sustainable practices into personal daily living.
  7. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others from diverse backgrounds.
  8. Available to work a minimum of two consecutive semesters (preference for Summer 2025 start, but Fall 2025 start will be considered)

Preferred Skills:

Graphic Design, video and/or photography experience, social media content creation experience, experience with administrative (e.g. secretarial) tasks, Aggie Green Fund grant experience, Training/Teaching experience.
